A Rare Opportunity
For the past two years The Button Factory has grown into something special on Karangahape Road. What started as a n experimental project has slowly become a meeting hub for music, workshops, yoga, art, conversation and late-night dance floors.
Now we are facing an turning point.
In two months our lease expires. At the same time, the downstairs space in the building is becoming available as our neighbours Kwik-N-Ezy prepare to move out.
This is an opportunity for us to take on the lease for the entire building.
But it also means stepping into something bigger than we can carry alone.
The Vision
Taking on the full building would allow The Button Factory to evolve into a true creative ecosystem in the centre of Auckland.
A place where different forms of culture and creativity live under one roof.
We imagine a building that includes:
• Live music and performance space
• Studios for artists, musicians and creative practitioners
• Workshops and learning spaces
• A community hangout and social third space
• Collaborative offices for creative organisations
• Cultural gatherings, talks and creative residencies
A place where ideas move between floors and people cross paths naturally.
Why This Matters
Cities need spaces that are not purely commercial and not purely institutional.
Spaces where culture can be made, not just consumed.
Karangahape Road has always been one of Auckland’s most important creative neighbourhoods. Keeping places like this alive helps maintain the energy, diversity and cultural life of the city.
This next step could allow The Button Factory to become a long-term home for creativity in Tāmaki Makaurau.
We Can’t Do It Alone
Taking on the entire building means stepping into a much larger responsibility.
To make this viable we are looking for partners, collaborators and tenants who want to be part of shaping this ecosystem.
We are especially interested in hearing from:
• Creative studios
• Cultural organisations
• Social enterprises
• Independent businesses
• Artists and collectives
• Creative agencies and start-ups
• Hospitality concepts that align with the space
Partnership Prospectus
We’ve prepared a partnership prospectus that outlines some of the ways the building could work and gives a general sense of the types of costs involved in making the project viable.
These examples are intended as a guide rather than a fixed model. They illustrate the kind of partnerships, studio spaces and collaborations that could help support the building.
But this is not a rigid blueprint.
If you have another idea for how the space could work, we are very open to hearing it. The most exciting possibilities often come from unexpected collaborations.
