Music You Can Feel
In Your Bones

There’s music you hear.
And then there’s bass music: the kind you feel moving through the floor, through your chest, through your bones.

Sound waves that travel through space, through bodies, through walls.

TOUCH BASS brings that energy together in the heart of Tāmaki for a full immersion.

Featuring Paige Julia, Optimus Gryme, and Sorchalula: Artists who are shaping this wave of bass culture in Aotearoa. Each bringing their own sound, their own rhythm, their own relationship with the sub.

WHERE SOUND
BECOMES PHYSICAL

PAIGE JULIA

Paige Julia is a creature that lives on an island in the South Pacific Ocean that spends her time tinkering with sound machines. Whilst a well-known force in Aotearoa’s underground bass music scene for some time, Paige Julia is now being embraced by the global music community as one of the very profound artists emanating from Aotearoa.

She has released music with 1985 Music, Drum&BassArena, Unchained Recordings, Samsara Beats, MalLabel Music, Forest Biz, Uncomfortable Beats and Totally Roasted as well as a self released album titled “Morphling” that won “Best Electronic Artist” at the 2021 Aotearoa Music Awards.

OPTIMUS GRYME

A true veteran of Aotearoa’s bass underground, Optimus Gryme has spent over a decade dedicated to the craft, moving from early trip-hop experiments in the late ’90s into a lifelong commitment to drum and bass culture.

Founder of Offbeat Records, promoter of some of New Zealand’s early hip hop and DnB fusion events, former host of the nationwide ROLL TV, label manager for Concord Dawn’s Uprising Records, and editor for Infusion Magazine, Charlie has helped shape the scene from every angle.

With performances across Australasia and appearances at major festivals including Rhythm & Vines, La De Da, and CoroGold, his sound is driven by one thing above all.

A deep love for heavy beats and serious bass.

SORCHALULA

Mysterious, mercurial and multi-faceted. SorchaLula has as many shades to her music as she does to her personality. A dynamic producer/DJ, she flows from slinky sensuality, to fierce filth, to the uncompromising underground.

Every set features her original tracks, many melting with honeyed vocals by singer Samuel (Cecilia’s Crop). In tune with what the body needs, she entwines beauty with bravery, sinuous melodies with hefty bass, lush peaks with decadent darkness.

She has played many top festivals around Aotearoa: Northern Bass, Shipwrecked Festival, Twisted Frequency, Aum Festival NYE, CubaDupa, Taniwha’s Den and more. She is highly rated by some of the biggest names in the scene for her taste, depth, and intuitive understanding of dancefloors. As founder of The Sensonauts she created events exploring the senses, music, dance, and music education with a focus on inclusivity.
