Sing your heart open at The Button Factory’s new Kirtan slot. This month features host Sarah Spence and special guest Jyoshna.

Jyoshna is a Kirtan artist, singer songwriter and ethnomusicologist with a doctorate in Kirtan. She has recorded 30+ albums and has toured extensively as well as recorded albums around the world. Recently based mostly in Ireland, Jyoshna returns to Aotearoa NZ frequently. We are honoured to have her join us at the Button Factory.

Kirtan (joyful chanting) is an opportunity to sing simple melodies together — without judgement — or simply listen. This style of kirtan has strong Indian roots with a couple of western instruments for a fusion style. Often sung in call and response, we often sing in the ancient original language Sanskrit, as well as different languages to honour different traditions and lineages from around the world.

Bring a plate for an optional potluck and tea afterwards.
