The Button Factory is looking for someone with personality, curiosity, and a genuine love of people to become the face of our brand.

This is a casual role, averaging around 8–10 hours per week, centred around capturing the stories, people, and creative energy that make The Button Factory what it is.

If you’re comfortable on camera, love talking to artists, and enjoy creating engaging short-form content, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

As our Content Reporter, you’ll be out amongst the action, interviewing musicians, artists, performers, workshop facilitators, visitors, and the wider Button Factory community.

Your role is to help tell authentic stories, showcase what’s happening each week, and create content that inspires people to become part of our creative community.

You’ll generally produce around two short-form reels each week, along with supporting social media content.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Create approximately two engaging Instagram and TikTok reels each week.
  • Attend events, workshops, exhibitions, performances, and community gatherings.
  • Interview artists, performers, organisers, and visitors using handheld microphones and camera equipment.
  • Present confidently on camera as one of the public faces of The Button Factory.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes moments, creative processes, and event highlights.
  • Edit short-form vertical video content.
  • Write captions and publish content to Instagram and TikTok.
  • Stay on top of current social media trends while keeping content authentic to our kaupapa.
  • Work with our team to identify interesting stories and upcoming events.
  • Help grow our online community through engaging, people-focused storytelling.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

  • Has a confident and engaging on-camera presence.
  • Is naturally curious and enjoys meeting new people.
  • Can make artists and guests feel relaxed during interviews.
  • Has experience creating content for Instagram Reels and TikTok.
  • Can film steady, high-quality footage using a phone or camera.
  • Has basic video editing skills.
  • Understands what makes short-form content engaging.
  • Has strong written communication skills.
  • Is organised, reliable, and able to work independently.
  • Brings positive energy and enthusiasm to every event.

Bonus Skills

  • Photography.
  • Experience with CapCut, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar editing software.
  • Experience covering live events.
  • Knowledge of music, arts, and creative communities.
  • Existing social media or presenting experience.

About The Button Factory

The Button Factory is an independent community arts and culture space in central Auckland. Every week we host live music, exhibitions, workshops, performances, discussions, markets, and community events that bring together artists, thinkers, and people from all walks of life.

We’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to become part of that community and help tell its story.

How to Apply

Rather than sending a traditional cover letter, we’d love to get to know you through video.

Please send us a short reel (around 60–90 seconds) introducing yourself, telling us a little about who you are, why this role excites you, and why you’d be a great fit for The Button Factory.

Send through to kiaora@thebuttonfactory.co.nz

Include links to any social media accounts or previous content you’ve created if you’d like us to check out your work.

We’re less interested in polished perfection than we are in authenticity, curiosity, and your ability to connect with people.
