For the next Writers Write : Actors Read we’re thrilled to have a story by the incomparable Bill Manhire, icon, poet, short story writer, emeritus professor, and New Zealand’s inaugural Poet Laureate. And to be read by award-winning Stephen Lovatt who was recently magnificent in Silo Theatre’s Job and is currently a key character on Shortland Street. He will read Highlights from Bill’s collection The Stories of Bill Manhire.
Also the multi-talented Chye-Ling Huang will read A Piece of Sweet Cake from Childish Palate by Shariff Burke, a Malay-Pākehā writer born in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and raised in Singapore. Chye-Ling is a queer Chinese-Pakeha theatre-maker and co-founder of Proudly Asian Theatre, who has previously interned with veteran contemporary puppetry company The Finger Players (Singapore) and her creative works include RNZ’s The Elephant in the Bedroom, TVNZ series Camp Be Better and plays Orientation and Call of the Sparrows.

Writers Write : Actors Read is a monthly series, curated by Bridget van der Zijpp for the podcast of the same name, and is supported by Creative New Zealand and The Women’s Bookshop who will join us on the night and have the books available.
