The Cheek exhibition artwork by Rachie Campbell, with bold painted colour and a rainbow crossing.

The Cheek! Art Exhibition

Life can feel pretty dark right now. The Cheek! brings a burst of bright colour, playful energy and cheekiness to The Button Factory.

Inspired by the “Wild Beasts”, (the nickname given to the early 20th-century French Fauvist movement, pioneered by artists such as Henri Matisse and André Derain) the exhibition embraces bold colour, expressive marks and heightened hues.

Like the Fauvist artists, Rachie Campbell’s nudes transform the everyday into something joyful, playful and alive. Her work celebrates the beauty of the human body, inviting viewers to smile, connect and embrace a little playfulness.

Rachie extends the expressive energy of her oil paintings into kaleidoscopic motion art, creating a dialogue between stillness of centuries old oil painting medium and moving motion bodies.

As part of the exhibition Rachie will be hosting;

An Experimental NEON Life Drawing class on Wednesday 9th December

A vibrant pop-up life drawing session with live models illuminated by fluorescent body paint under UV light. Come draw, play and see the human form in a whole new light.

Rachie Campbell is a Te Whanganui-a-Tara multidisciplinary artist working across oil painting, graphic design and moving image.
