Beginner to Intermediate Shibari Classes

About Auckland Shibari Studio

Auckland Shibari Studio (ASS) is curating a beginner-to-intermediate Shibari community where you’ll learn:

  • Japanese-inspired ties for yourself and partners

  • Basic ties used in Shibari practice

  • How Shibari can foster deeper sensual connection and trust

  • Verbal & non-verbal communication for a meditative tying experience

  • Using rope beyond tying—creating sensations, volumes, and experiences


Class Offerings (March – April – May)

Intro to Shibari (Walk-In)

  • Tuesdays in April & June | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

  • No booking required, solo-friendly, pay at the door

  • Learn the history, safety guidelines, rope handling, and basic techniques

  • Option to tie yourself or participate with a partner

Beginners Intensive (Ticketed, Partnered Course)

  • Tuesdays in March (SOLD OUT) & May | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

  • 4-week course (must take an Intro class first)

  • Covers rhythm, presence, energy, and communication in tying

  • Learn Ichinawa (One Rope Flow) and qualify for Intermediate classes

  • Tickets required (May session TBA)

Intermediate Class (Walk-In)

  • Tuesdays in March & May | 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

  • No booking required, solo-friendly, pay at the door

  • Focus on patterns, pre-suspension safe ties & tension techniques

  • Learn full-body harnesses, leg ties, arm binders, consent negotiation, scene creation

  • Must bring your own ropes + shears

Intermediate Intensives (Ticketed, Partnered Course)

  • Tuesdays in April & June | 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

  • Topics (Prerequisites vary):

    • TK, Gote & Mananawa Harness + Archetypes Intensive

    • Partial Suspensions & Tying Sequences

    • Intro to Suspension & Bamboo Tying (Coming 2025)

  • Prerequisites: Must complete Beginners Intensive or equivalent training

Want to be tied instead of tying?

Rope Modeling During Classes

  • Drop in and be tied by a friend or partner in a supervised learning space

  • Learn about consent, safety, communication, and body awareness

  • No suspension modeling at this level

  • $30 per person (Intro & Intermediate classes) – “Pay what you want” option available

Venue: 2 Abbey St, Auckland Central, NZ 1010
Parking: Free from 6 PM in surrounding streets
Age Requirement: 18+ only (Adult themes, non-sexual environment)

  • Bring your own rope or use class rope

  • Rope & supplies for sale during and after class:

    • Ogawa Jute Rope (Japan) – Natural, Red, Violet & Black

    • Rope Safety Shears

    • Organic Jojoba Oil & Beeswax Rope Treatment

What to Wear

Comfortable attire (yoga clothes recommended)
No tight jeans, kink wear, or business attire that restricts movement


Important: Safety & Liability Waiver

  • All participants must fill out a Safety, Liability & House Rules Waiver upon arrival

  • Confidentiality: Real names may be required for legal documentation but are securely stored and accessed only by senior team members
