Mathias Wyatt Allemand is a French painter and illustrator, and a resident artist at The Button Factory for over a year. Raised in the serene countryside of southern France, he developed a deep connection to and respect for the natural world. He pursued Fine Arts studies in Marseille and later specialized in Illustration in Belgium, where he spent a decade honing his craft. During this time, he expanded his artistic repertoire to include decorative work and murals for restaurants, cafés, private homes, and even the Théâtre du Soleil in Paris.
Following this, he lived in Berlin for five years before embarking on a new chapter in 2022 in New Zealand, where he rediscovered the profound significance of daily contact with nature in all its stunning diversity. His work celebrates the harmony and richness of the natural world, while highlighting the fragility of ecosystems under pressure from human activity.
Allemand’s choice to paint on cardboard is both practical and symbolic—a deliberate commentary on a world driven by over-consumption, where countless goods are packaged and shipped globally, contributing to the loss of millions of species and, ultimately, threatening humanity itself. Through his art, he invites viewers to reflect on our role within the delicate balance of life on Earth.
