Auckland Shibari Studio (ASS) will be curating a beginner to intermediate Shibari community where you’ll learn how to use traditional Japanese Jute rope to tie yourselves and your partners. You will learn the basic ties used in Shibari practice, how to optionally use Shibari to foster deeper sensual connection and trust with yourself or a partner, and how to communicate verbally and non-verbally to also create a meditative space for your model (or rope bunny as we call them!).
You will learn how to use the rope, not only to tie, but create different sensations, volumes, sounds and experiences!
Beginners class: 5:30pm – 7:30pm Tuesdays
This class is designed for beginners who are interested in exploring Shibari and laying the foundation for more technical tying. You’ll learn the history & basic principles of Shibari, including safety guidelines, rope handling and technique. You will also have the opportunity to practice tying and being tied in a safe and supportive environment. All ties in beginners can be self tied so if you arent ready to pair up, there is no pressure to come alone!
Intermediate Class: 7:30pm – 9:00pm after beginners on Tuesdays
This Class Is for progressing students. You’ll learn different ties, patterns, and techniques for both floor and pre-suspension tying. Some weeks this may be learning a new harness or leg tie, other times it may be a 3-week series on learning a 3-rope TK, other weeks, we may include optional practice on soft skills such as consent negotiation, rope handling, and intentional scene creation and much more.
What if I just want to be tied?!?!
Rope Modelling during Intermediate Class: 7:30pm – 9:00 pm
This is an option available for those in beginner classes and or people who want to drop in and be tied by a partner or friend while they learn and practice during an Intermediate class.
